After graduating from Texas A&M University with my undergraduate degree, like many other individuals, I was unsure of my career path. I accepted a role as a live-in staff at The Settlement Home for Children, a residential placement for teenage girls in the foster care system with extensive histories of abuse and neglect. During my 93-hour work weeks, I was introduced to the incredible world of therapeutic support, therapy, and behavior modification.
After working as a “step-in parent” with a group of 9 teens I decided to pursue my master’s degree to obtain my clinician license. I earned my Master’s degree in Social Work from Texas State University in 2018 and completed the necessary supervision requirements for my LCSW.
Since pursuing my master’s degree, I have worked as a bilingual case manager for Strong Start, an organization dedicated to supporting parents in their parenting journey via psychoeducation, coaching and basic needs. I returned to continue my work in the foster care system at The Settlement Home for Children as the Program Support Specialist (2017-2020), supervising a team of 40+ staff members, successfully managing 4 programs, and training over 200 individuals. In 2020, I transitioned to the therapist role working with emerging adults, both supporting their mental health journey and their daily functioning. After 5 years in the world of foster care, I accepted a position in a community crisis organization, The Mind-Body Collaborative, in which I worked as a clinician and supervisor, working with families and individuals in crisis.
Present: While focusing on my private practice, I continue to work with the wonderful organization The Mind-Body Collaborative (TMBC) as a contract clinician. This work opportunity allows me to continue to work to support families and individuals in crisis to find stability and hope as they move forward in life.
